Dipyrimadole & Post-Operative Hypercoagulability
نویسنده
چکیده
It has been suggested that dipyrimadole might be effective in reducing the incidence of thrombosis by interfering with both platelet clumping and the early stages of blood clotting. Emmons et al (1965 a & b) found that dipyrimadole inhibited thrombus formation in injured rabbit vessels in vivo, and reduced platelet stickiness in vitro, and they suggested that dipyrimadole might be a useful agent in the reduction of thrombo-embolic attacks. Twenty-seven patients submitted to "cold" surgery at this hospital were treated with either active dipyrimadole or placebo tablets in an attempt to discover whether or not the active substance would be useful in reducing the incidence of post-operative thrombosis, and associated embolism. Two in vitro tests were used as indices of the post-operative hypercoagulable state and of any effective drug activity :

Thromboprophylaxis and orthopaedic surgery: options and current guidelines.
Antithrombotic therapy remains crucial in the peri- and post-operative management of patients who undergo orthopaedic surgical procedures, particularly total joint arthroplasty (TJA) and hip fracture surgery (HFS). Optimal thromboprophylaxis is currently mandatory in most orthopaedic practices to avoid the dreaded complications of venous thromboembolism (VTE). The pathogenesis of VTE is multifa...

See related article, pages 1358–1363. Since the publication of the Antiplatelet Trialists Collaboration meta-analyses well over a decade ago1 showing a relative risk reduction of 25% from aspirin for all secondary vascular ischemic events in patients presenting with a variety of vascular disorders, there have been numerous attempts to improve on these modest benefits. Reducing the dose of aspir...
متن کاملHypercoagulability in Liver Transplant Recipients: Does Portal Vein Thrombosis Predict Post-Operative Thrombotic Complications?
Background: Cirrhotic patients have higher rates of hypercoagulable disorders. We hypothesized that orthotopic liver transplant (OLT) recipients with pre-operative portal vein thrombosis (PVT) have more postoperative thrombotic events than those without PVT. Aims: To compare rates of post-op thrombotic events and outcomes between those with and without pre-op PVT. Methods: All OLT recipients be...
متن کاملPre-, intra- and post-operative plasma levels of soluble P-selectin in diabetics under thoracic paravertebral block versus general anaesthesia.
Platelet activation that occur after tissue injury increases the expression of P-selectin. General anaesthesia and surgery may lead to peri-or post-operative hypercoagulability state that may lead to thrombotic complications, especially in high risk patients as diabetics. Administration of local anaesthesia was suggested to limit this hypercoagulability. The aim of this work was to evaluate the...
متن کاملUncovering Hypercoagulability in Sepsis Using ROTEM
This case series presents three patients with sepsis/septic shock in whom standard coagulation tests (international normalized ratio, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen, antithrombin, thrombocytes) and ROTEM ® thromboelastometry (InTEM, ExTEM, FibTEM) were simultaneously performed. Although all patients showed significantly prolonged plasmatic coagulation times with a putatively ...
